The Mermaid’s Tail

Sometimes she forgets
How beautiful her tail is
Often she doesn’t remember
How strong her tail is
Every time she looks back
Every time she looks down
To her very tail
Sam the Septopus is there
Every time
He’s there

The Mermaid’s Song

The Mermaid extends her tear glands
To her fingertips
Memories, guilt, pleasure, pain
All
To her fingertips
Ripples
Waves
Her fingers dance
On her harp
Her fingers dance
On her golden Grecian gothic harp
The strings vibrate
To the beat of the Mermaid’s heart
The harp sings
To the tempo of the Mermaid’s blood flow
The Mermaid’s vocal cords in sync
With her tear glands
The Mermaid’s lips round to transform pain
Into the Mermaid’s song of sentiment
A heap of dark shadow underwater nears
The Mermaid is as calm as the starry sky
The dark shadow surfaces
Sam the Septopus
He listens with his eyes
He hears with his heart
The Mermaid’s joy, the Mermaid’s melancholy
The Septopus’s food, the Septopus’s lullaby
‘They’re coming.
They’re on their way,’
Said Sam the Septopus
To his goddess, to his Mermaid

The Septopus Says

To the Mermaid the Septopus says
Only those experienced unbearable pains
Possess the wounded strength
To the Mermaid the Septopus reassures
Only those have seen the darkness
Can truly opt for positivity over bane

The Wounded Strength Companions

MW the Mermaid flaps her tail
Speeding up Sam the Septopus
Half of her does not belong here
Yet another half screams for the land
Sam lost some of himself to cruelty
Yet he is the Mermaid’s perfect helping hand

The Septopus Called Sam

Sam the Septopus was one happy octopus
Only to realise others might build their happiness on his pain
Sam the Septopus swims on
Not wishing to become sashimi again

MW the Mermaid Answers

Q: Tell us 7 random facts about yourself.
MW: 1) I am not good at talking about myself.
2) I love Mr Bean.
3) I haven’t put any makeup on for two years.
4) I prefer tea to coffee.
5) Piña colada is my favourite drink.
6) I want to move to Switzerland.
7) I’m not afraid of drop towers but I’m afraid of pirate ship rides.

Q: What is your lucky number?
MW: 5. Ever since my earliest memory, every chain of number I am associated with contains ‘5’. I also have a special attachment to ’25’, which is the square of 5 and contains ‘5’ itself.

Q: What is your political stance?
MW: My ideal world is a Utopia with no government.

Q: Do you take the photos accompanying your posts?
MW: I took all photos associated with ‘MW Photo Concepts’. Otherwise, I either purchase stock photos, or use free wallpapers.

Q: What is your favourite book?
MW: Wuthering Heights. (spoiler alert) Currently reading it for the 386th time. I adore Kate Bush’s Wuthering Heights too, of course. How amazing it is for Emily Brontë to have all these wild imaginations and complex plot in her head – the head of a Yorkshire stay-at-home daughter of a priest. The circle of life from Catherine Earnshaw, Catherine Heathcliff to Catherine Linton, and backwards from Catherine Linton, Catherine Heathcliff, to eventually Catherine Earnshaw. The outlook and people of Wuthering Heights versus the outlook and people of Thrushcross Grange. The comparison of Catherine’s love for Heathcliff to her love for Edgar. The reunion of Heathcliff and Catherine in ghost form. There are simply so many to explore and experience!
